Life in Iga is divided among small farming communities and local warrior families. Fortified residences sit among ordinary houses and fields, reminders that conflict is never far away. Some of these warriors become skilled in scouting, intelligence, infiltration, and surprise — practices later associated with the ninja. Here, “ninja” is not a separate army of black-clad assassins, but something rooted in the world around you.
